Dipole Antenna: Explanation, Types, Applications
Dipole antennas are common wireless communication antennas used in various wireless technology applications. Dipole antennas usually have a large bandwidth, so dipole antennas can support multi-frequency communications, such as 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, etc.

Dipole Antenna Basics
The design of a dipole antenna is based on a pair of parallel and symmetrical metallic conductors, usually straight. These two conductors are often called "dipoles" and their length is usually half the wavelength. The shape of this antenna is such that it radiates in both the direction of the electric field and the direction of the magnetic field, so it can transmit and receive wireless signals efficiently.
Dipole antennas offer the following advantages, including:
- Simple structural design helps control costs.
- Wide range of applicable devices, including Wi-Fi routers, and mobile devices.
- Multiple frequencies can be supported.
- Directivity: The dipole antenna has strong directivity, which helps to control the direction of signal transmission and reception.

Half Wave Dipole Antenna |
Multiple Half Wave Dipole Antenna |
Folded Dipole Antenna |
A half-wave dipole antenna is a basic dipole antenna with a length of about half the wavelength of the frequency of operation. |
A multiple half-wave dipole antenna is a configuration in which multiple half-wave dipole antennas are combined. |
Dipole conductors are folded into specific forms. Folded dipole antennas are easier to design and use than traditional half-wave dipole antennas for specific applications. |
Dipole antenna applications
Dipole antenna technology is widely used in wireless communication.
